Pen-paper Secularism : Silent Mass Killing of million ways of living, dreaming, creating, expressing

Even though this issue is of grave seriousness, I would use a story as a metaphor to relate and express my views.
It reminds me of an age old family story, where two brother's keep quarreling. This happens because of lot of reason's, one of which is difference of opinion.
Now if I happen to be an excellent gujarati artist, and you are an excellent marathi artist. Won't there be difference of opinion? Yes!
I say, this drawing of lines or curves is agains't my way of drawing, I can't understand how you love this form which is so dark and desponent. Iin their own sense, both are right, but can't come to consensus. Fights increase to a point that father has to intervene. Now here is the classical case of secularism.

Now pen and paper secularism will say, stop drawing your way, you are foolish,  you both are too religious, please . . . draw  modern . . . !, it is neither marathi, nor gujarati, it is majoratarian, best state of art, maximum number of viewers, highest scope of progress. Now both brothers find his father sensible . . . both proudly claim to be secular, both enjoy, compete and admire each other.  We both ridicule at how foolish our painting of bamboo and stick was, and how cool it is to photoshop and make modern designs, silently accepting the double standard's of judging. A marathi dream is religious, but a mozart dream is cool and secular, what lady gaga wears  is secular, but wearing saree is small mentality and religious, wearing a middle finger  t-shirt is secular, but wearing tshirt with marathi slang is not, ! texting a phrase(with all due respect to auther) in shakesphere's difficult english about god or mother is secular, but same in fb post in gujarati or hindi is down market(although sometimes the post makers are sadly amateurs in photoshop ), rather it should be embraced and celebrated along with english, because how much creativity on fb itself with so many languages and so many expressions !!! Maybe you will struggle with both parochial language and english, but fairness should not be the only criteria, when we come to society, creativity, variability should, be too . . . of course when it comes to law and order, fairness is only criteria, but not in day to day social situations!!
and irrevokably  (with all due respect to extraordinary efforts, breath taking visuals, amazing soundtrack, and brilliant get together of creative heads in GOT ) Idolizing Daenerys targaryen in GOT is secular, but idolizing kali or some ajmer khwaja(sufi) is religious, just because it hasn't been marketed well and is not majoritarian.

Coming back to the story,
But one bright day, a customer came, with his daughter. He told, "my little kid used to love both your  paintings and look what she has brought with her" and then showed an archive collection to their past paintings. One after other, both of them understood what went wrong.
Secularism exists only when there are differences and it is a process of celebrating the differences.
If a blank painting has been painted 5 colors, one thing to do is to erase whole painting and have only one color, that is what is linearity, and other thing to do is to embrace those 5 colors making them even more colorful and harmonious, making identity even more stonger but with celebrating sense, embracing the differences.
India, as a country has humungous unspeakable scope of creativity with thousands of dialects, so many differences, if only we celebrate these differences. If only a marathi is not shy of marathipana, a gujarati not shy of gujaratipana, but both admiring each other's differences.   Let me speak my gujarati poems, let you play your marathi instruments and sit together in jugalbandhi or fusion. That is the true spirit of secularism.
Don't you see the suffocation already? From offices to school? We have so much embraced this majoritarian idea of one idea, one plan, on way of dreaming, that we forgot that we are humans and each one of us is different in our own ways. Not allowing differences to exist will only create more suffocation . . . creativity can't prosper where there are no differences. It will become the most boring, ruthless cold world otherwise, which few countries are very much experiencing . . .  Initially it feels exciting in majoritarianism, with power to project big, but slowly it recedes and we realize how many dreams we have killed within ourselves or ourside ourselves . . .
It is like silver coated jail, where you have power to do everything, but still you can't cross this jail . . . you have to live within this jail, this is what modern framework had done, It has drawn an invisible mentle line between modernity and millions of traditional ways, and kills one aspect of dream diversity every day . . .
Regional Jingoism,Fanaticism, etc are terms often used by media to decimate dreams and aspiration of alternate view  . . .
Like in ecosystem has to have natural order, so does human aspirations too . . . If you are destroying old ways of tradtions and rituals, but not replacing them with enough number of new traditions and rituals, completely different in approaches, then imbalance will be felt. . .
I know new rituals like texting ritual, coding ritual, etc are there, but still the touch or feel behind all is still same, but in India especially, the feel is totally different from north to south, east to west, and can be felt very clearly . . . .
Isn't 50,000 of varities of living decimated to just 10, a killing? Is it less than killing? What minimum we can do, is that a marathi first of all, know his rituals, try to gather the dreams behind the things he observes in a marathi society, secondly tries to embrace it, without shying out, and thirdly perpetuate it to next generation. The only thing he must understand is that my marathi is not better or worse than gujarati or madrasi, it is just that I am doing my part to mainain, appreciate and celebrate the  biodiversity of this phantasmagorical world and make it worth living for next generation adding freshness and creating breeding grounds for both vivid diverse imaginations and reality to florish . . .
So next time you see, a gujarati or marathi magazine or if your friend speaks about something other than the terms fit out in your modern vocabulary, don't get shy  away by the silver prison jail created by modern marketing withing you, rather break it . . . :)

Important Reactions

My good college friend :
well i think you don't have any idea about what secularism is...I haven't seen any secular person (or atheists) opposing any ones artistic freedom.. However religious fanatics always get a way to banish artists like taslima nasreen or fida hussuain ... These are the people who creates problem whenever someone celebrates Valentines day or expresses their love for same sex...These are the people who kill thousands in communal violence over fairy tales and never express their regrets.

Me:
I had considered this aspect too . . . that's why I said, celebrating the differences . . . I have lived in villages, and I have seen how I learned to make beautiful madhubani art toys and krishna paintings from my neighbors and we used to learn it from khan chacha. . . thing is it was all mixed up, but now I see people shy of expressing some forms of idea's . . . stuff you are talking about are not celebrating difference, they are simply idiots and I am against it . . . My point was against pen paper secularism, where people in name of secularism try to belittle every other idea, old in origin . . . I have met such people sadly in NGO's, in many places who talk and preach about such stupid definitions of secularism . . . and am very happy that you havn't encountered such people, if not people do look up the newspapers, will mail you some links soon . . . . still I respect your comment and will take it up . .

My good college friend :
I am sorry if i was bit harsh in my last comment...People you are talking about are wannabe europeans and i also hate them... but it has nothing to do with being secular...I have seen deeply communal person behaving in the same way... However in my opinion religious fanatics are far more susceptible to attack any one who don't share their views... i have given the example of fida hussain or taslma nasreen...and this trend is increasing a lot in India...On the other hand you can not give a single example of a secular group banishing anyone or beating people who are too religious

Me

No, I am not offended, that's ok dear friend, these discussions are more than one way . happy that you were not diplomatic. . but yes, you are correct that fanatics are far more susceptible because of bullshit distorted interpretations hardwired in their mind, not just that Zakir hussain, kamal hassan's hostility etc are also there in list and I am against it, but as you correctly pointed out . . . the so called wannable europeans use words like religion, fanaticism, regional jingoism, etc to marginalize art forms very much connected to million different gods, stories of gods, etc, god as a metephor, creativity, art is brilliant but not to be confused with reality and existance and supirior god inferior god kind of crap, which leads to fanaticism ,but at same time don't underestimate imagination, even if it is not real, it is extremely creative and exchanging process . . . contrasts of opinions and ways of living which make it so special to live here, etc which are very diverse in this nation, and is something not worth losing. . . vast killing of iraq is example how fanaticism is dangerous, that is why we need more gods, so as to break the hegemony of singular way of imagination, but to take away imagination, and believe me, it will repress for a period, but will come up in a big way somehow . . . . imagination is one form of expression, beautiful until it is not compulsive and destructive . . . !!! abnegation is to be used in extreme cases not in all societies, especially where there is alternate solution of beautiful coexistance . . I hope that the public I am conveying to, is definitely not of the fanatic kind . . . . that is a big pre-assumption I have taken

Case Study India : a colonized mindset(Part 1)

Case Study : India
                                               - A colonized mindset(Part 1)

Independence is a hoax. In hearts we are still a child, who is inertly drawn by candies shown to us, never the real thing. We still live in world of sheep’s where our tongue and very logic of logic is defined by the circumvent influence factor. We are all bi-products of a large scale mass effect very cunningly and cold-bloodedly framed by invisible sources.
The hypothesis of colonization cannot be studied isolated from study of 3 pillars on which it stands namely power, marketing and anthropology. Power gives flesh to marketing and anthropology gives the skeleton to it. But the most important thing in colonization is amusingly very simple. Beauty of most complex problems is simplicity of its origin. Making a person dream and make him crave for that dream in an insecure corner of person.
Except for an exceptional few, all of us desire to give some color to life. We don’t want our lives meaningless. And second common human trait is insecurity and preservation instincts and reflexes which we have borrowed from our primate ancestors.
The intelligence of marketing lies is deep understanding of generalized conception of color for different people, creating a little space for product to become a part of fantacy painting of your consumer’s mind.

On some way or the other every culture comes across influences, but never before has any culture soo multifaceted has gone through such vagabond transitions as India has. The problem with nation is not that we have to compete with our future, but we have to compete with our glorious past.

Leaving aside the military aspect, back then India was extremely complete nation. Completeness lied in being able to find artist expressions, scientific expressions, and yet without any qualms, very few raids, few issues.
As an Indian, we find ourselves ashamed or at some level primordial, when someone talks that India used to stand for something like Liberation  or 'Mukti'. It is just that at the back of our mind's we have started to reconcile any saskritised word as an untouchable zone associated with faiths and beliefs, and as neo-liberalist label as 'Hindu' Ideology. If you time travel in the  so called pre-colonial era, and do some research, it was like a curiousity, a quest, a fantacy which ruled the world at a time and was infact improperly grasped  as a god fearing cobweb of beliefs and daily rituals. It is like today's curiosity of understanding the anatomy of mind, complexity of nature, etc. Just that it is slightly polished by touch of current vocabulary and brimmed with latin words which are considered so called superior because of the very day to day teaching learning, where every important term, theory, proof, hypothesis, lemma is either termed as greek/latin origin word or is latinzied in some way.
Speaking about Caste system, it was only around 200 BC that caste started to become big thing. Manuscript itself was written dated back nearby to that era. Hence it would be huge misnomer to say, caste was basis of India.Varna's were never barred from pursuing the highest ideal at that time, mukti or more latinized "Libertation" or even more, the quest that all sciences are performing . . . .
We all know how easy it is to mislead a majority, simply by twisting the facts. During shadowy patch of colonial India, the most dominant experience amongst the masses was Fear. Hence the highest of ideal of India, Liberation, a brilliant cocktail of subtle science and broader human aspiration, unfortunately became more like expression of freedom from invasion, freedom from the misery. The meaning of freedom got decimated to mere rudimentary defination. It is use of mathematics for mere addition and subtraction. We all know, mathematics is much more than addition and subtraction, it is about abstraction, weaving out a vocabulary to express the most intricate concepts.

If we draw a parallel between Mathamatics and Mukti in first they both start with 'M' :), I know how people say "add a few physics words in your lectures and people will listen to any crap you speak :p, but that is not my intention anyways" secondly both are concepts which leave out large gaps of multiple interpretation, which intern strengthens and articizies(makes it more artistic), connects to human aspiration of creativity. For example there is chinese way of multiplication, then vedic mathematics, abacus, etc and in this space, there is a space for you too to spawn your way out.
Similarly in mukti, you can dance out like bharatynatyam to reach that perfection of geometry, you can simply sit silent and meditate to reach that state and of course innumerable ways and spaces for you to aspire.
According to me, logic is the most clerical definition to something like mathematics which has rather much more to offer, similar thing happened with yoga too where acrobatics, and few posture became synonymous with something like yoga, which is a word assigned to describe ways of aspiring mukti.

Both these aspirations suffer from a common problem, which is room for mis-interpretation. The more clerical or less evolved, an idea or a concept is, the less is the room for mis-interpretation, and confusion. Like you can't argue with me, 2+2=5! This basic arithmetic is example of basic logic, which is completely full proof,no doubts, but there is sparse room for expansion. But we know, that mathematics is much more than that, and If we limit ourselves to secure domain of full proof logic, then there is no growth at all !
There are differences also, in sence, if axioms are given for mathematics, and it is derived in some away, it is more and less verifiable, even though there may be millions of different ways to arriving at the same conclusion which is similar to the prior. But science is not like mathematics, it is even more prone to subjective changes of model, changing or improving its models with better and better models of experimentation.

So now, suppose no technology would have come out of mathematics, we would have simply decimated mathematics the same way idea of mukti has been. You would have simply told mathematicians or artists who are doing mind boggling work belonging to occident as crazy lunatics.
But because we widely see the technology, and I would say universal dreaming machine, such as cinematography which potrays same confusions, complications of human aspirations in a vivid grandeur way, aided with Technology as an aid to inspired people, making them even more inspired and creative, we somewhere start thinking mukti as an oriental concept as infirior. But if the same thing presented in terms of last struggle Einstein to understand things like liberation, which is true, and you would not just be convinced, but also start dreaming. That is the level of deep rooted colonization.

At this time, I am not trying to belittle the extraordinary contribution of scientific community but I am just saying, that we are simply ignoring the humungous work done in this land.

It may be strange, but the language(not simply words) of communication is a very big thing.
At this point of time, I wish to cite Prof. Vilayanur Ramachandran of UC San diago university about  his wonderful insight on confusing metaphor with reality.

Now I will demonstrate live,  raw hypothetical case as an example to study , how colonization works. . .

Before I speak anything about any nation, I want to say, It is not these few words which determine course of any nation, it is the hardwork, strife, and wit, and muscular strength which makes a nation, and love it or hate it, british men have shown enormous amount of military and economic leadership.

Let's switch cases.Let us say India has captured british, and now aims to colonize Britain. First thing it will do is change the books.  Fill the British books with worst things britain has done, best thing India has done, and make them feel miserable and inferior about themselves. Change the important words to sanskrit origin. Change the official dresscode from Railway Ticket conductor to Official meeting dresscode to saree and kurta. This will make them feel that British way of dress is good and fine but not official, this is call psychological dominance. Anyone wearing blazer will be mocked at, and would be considered a shameful act.

Next stage would be what we called silent dominance.  Silent in sense, we never think, that it is dominance but it slowly rules our lives. In this stage, using marketing and media, It will be subtly communicated that how british dance is most primitive like living in dark ages, and Indian dance is symbol of pride. Indian art and dance will be taught compulsory in schools and large shows, parties, festivals will be organized with only Indian forms of dances, something like garba. It will be so much large scaled that the whole dreaming machine of britain will be hijacked by India. This will give complete blow and make british wonder why they are still silly british, why do these silly british ball dance, when I can celebrate such grand Indian dances. The whole equation of superiority and inferiority will be upside down. They will start feeling ashamed of being british and their fantacy will slowly be to dance as indian as possible, sing as indian as possibe, produce movies as indian as possible, have a girlfriend as indian as possible. Why the hell am I british anymore? People will feel otherworldly if they see, and Indian skin anywhere, and will tan their skins to look like Indian actors or actresses. People will love to order food from Indian delicacies instead of british food on parties and food giants will deliver it in 30 minutes, safeguarding reliability.

Liberalist will now fight for being indian like khajurahoo in evoking expressions or erroticism rather than staying typical british who are completely unromantic, an average british women would feel opressed in british cloths and would crave for trying out some choli, where their body is more exposed, and appreciated. Everyone will try to saskritize words they use in order to sound modern and liberal, especially those in top corporate, in order to sound reliable and get contracts, and not be steriotyped by anyone as lame britisher, who is still too tradional.

Point is not that India is good or britain is bad or otherwise. Point is to show how distortion became a part of reality and so deeply that even if we know, we can't change our ways to think.

Living in this 21st Era, we need to change our mindset, Indians must be open to learning british things as well as british be open to learning indian things, let the best of two there for future to cherish. Point is that we should not completely become lob sided and ignore these hidden messages. Especially, for a nation like India, atleast its own people should try and see, that they are even a little bit Indian. Even though the Idea of nationhood is still less than the worldhood, but still it is not a small Idea, and believe me, in terms of diversity, India has equivalant of 4 to 5 worlds within itself only . . .  and diversity is mother of creativity and creative spirit and it ough to stay, for which the least we can do is, take pride in the multitudes of Indian expressions we come accross, and cherish at least one or two of them.  Maybe they are not well marketed, may be they are not presented in grandeur way, but that is your job to take it with you and bring it to world of a newer version!! isn't it?

As a great sociologist of our time, Prof. Shiv Vishwanathan says "Beauty and Ingenuity of India, is that there is not a single variety of rice, we have 30,000 varieties of it"

If for god forbid, India, becomes one, that day will be dooms day, because, India ough to be many, take pride in the differences, magnify the little details of the culture, and market it well to the next generation, at the same time, not be stubborn and too rigid in accepting gifts that world as whole has to offer. Thing is we need to mingle the best of India, the most diverse of India, into the pool of the constantly growing and evolving world.

Word of Caution

Don't mis-understand spirituality of India, by the foolish interpretations of these baba's and baby's who are an outgrow of the worst kind of leechers. They are the worst of kind, and people following them are even more stupid. Please use your brains while analysing India.
There is difference between creativity and god fearing nature.

Read for yourself the scriptures, etc and if ever you were to trust some people about spirituality and if ever you were to to trust a few spiritual organizations, here are the few, I have researched and are more or less okey and are not blind following, having some scientific basis :

1. Isha Foundation
2. Art of Living
3. Ramakrishna Mission
4. YSF or SRF

Belief itself is blind, scepticism is a great way to live, and let experimentation and experience be the only basis of proof or disproof, and this very Idea.
I am not against diversity, like when I study a signal, I know I can express a simple pulse as
1. linear weighted sum of sines and cosines
2. Wavelet Transform
3. Contourlet, Ridgelet, etc etc etc
but these variations always add to the flora of maths and help in easier application in technolgy, similar should be the standards of appreciation for so called indian forms or music, dances, forms of approach towards mukti, etc,
where the variation should be appreciated, but at the same time, proved or verified experimentally or experientially in some way and should not get hallucinatory . . .
Then  let the only thing which proves itself experimentally stay, which revolutionized modern science today, stay. Such standards seems small but whatever technology you see around has come out of rigorous testing and precision facilitating scaling up stuff. Such must be the standards for experimenting with your experiential dimension which India has long stood for, and is very basis of nation.

I know, I have used most harsh words to speak about this topic, and I understand that extreme is wrong both in spirit and action, . . .  but i guess you get the spirit of what I wished to convey, problem is that in this tussle of giants, it is we who are constantly fooled in a way that we look intelligent by being fooled, which I want you to be aware of, is danger ahead.

But you do one thing, just go outside your comfort zone and see the world around, observe things carefully and neutrally with any grudges or ideologies, and you will find the words in this blog ringing back to you  . . .

goodness should never be an excuse of ignoring and undermining the practical realities existing in world . . . .

Anyways

When the clock ticks 4 in morning,
and my work still pending,
better go office next day,
anyways what worse could happen?

You can try and try to mend everything,
anyways there will always be a few broken peices,

even if you get hurt by your boss,
work on,
anyways you cannot be perfect,

If IIT's don't work, don't give GATE,IIT 3 times,
anyways there is never a universal number 1,
there cannot be satisfaction,
in short live, why meddle with such petty things?
why not desire of living life satisfied, involved and gracefully day by day?

Let not the impact of past,
snatch away the juice of enthusiasm today,
anyways what has happened has happened,
learn from it, and start a new page,
anyways there will be something to moan about. . .

Don't make yourself something you are not,
just because someone tells you to prove yourself,
anyways there will always be something to point at,
rather keep learn at your own pace,
more importantly enjoy and involve into work. . .
anyways we have to die one day,
better die involved, rathere than keeping such grudges. . .

In this short span of life,
why waste life simply nagging and ego hurts?
Why not keep enjoying and involving ?
why to have big big plans?
rather why can't we  have plans of no plan?
such a wonderful plan .. . . :)

So Try to fulfill something you feel like dream,
and don;t care a crap, what it becomes in reality,
anyways you cannot hold anything in this everchanging world,
be it sweetest sound, or most bitter trouble . . .
